I wanted to flex one of my newer clients, https://techtravelmonitor.com/, run by a friend Joel Pinaroc.
Joel and I have known each other since my writing days in Inquirer, and he at Manila Standard where he is an Editor.
Melvin Calimag of Newsbytes.ph, another long time client, told Joel about what I do. Joel contacted me and in two weeks time he was up and running. He was initially hesitant with WordPress but after sending him a few links he surprised me with how fast he got it looking nice, and in no time at all he’s publishing several articles a day.
I’m so happy to help fellow writers like Joel and Melvin, including Joey Alarilla’s https://digitallifeasia.com. These are good dudes I had met along the way in a previous employment. We were the original ‘content creators’, and to still be connected to them feels great.
From a news consumer’s perspective, I personally get my local and LGU news from a variety of sources many of them very (very) small online publications far outside the realm of the big national brands. Just like everyone else I see the need to want to broaden my news sources, and because I’ve been doing this a while I can see the self serving agendas behind popular news agencies. I am in awe of small reporters and writers’ courage and resilience. It is the path less traveled yet most needed.
From a writer’s perspective, the idea of having your own publication is the natural step forward. If you write, having your own publishing space and establishing your own audience is the clear next step.
The fact I get to do this service and provide affordable options to writers to make this happen makes me feel happy.
So hint hint other long time writer friends out there, PM me, follow Joel’s example and start your own online gig!
